Prayer Fuel

The Night of Power is marked each year during Ramadan on one of the odd-numbered nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan. It commemorates the night that Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammed received the first verses of the Qur’an, and it is believed that spending it in worship gains the same favor with God as as spending 1,000 months in worship.

In Kyrgyzstan, Muslims commemorate this holy night by gathering together in mosques or even in homes to break the fast together and to listen to a Moldo (religious teacher, imam) read and interpret the Quran. In Kyrgyzstan, Islamic knowledge is still fairly basic amongst the local population, so this is an opportunity for people to ask questions of the moldo and a chance for the moldo to have the focused attention of his congregants for a long period of time, acquainting them more fully with the teachings of the Qur’an. On this night, some may fast all through the night, and many pray more fervently for their personal requests as the Qur’an says God commissions angels in a special way on behalf of the faithful on this night.

Exalting His Name

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
    Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
    King of the nations.
Who will not fear you, Lord,
    and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
    and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.” (Rev 15:3-4, ESV).

Praying for the Harvest

(I pray that you may know) … what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come (Eph 1:19-21). 

Pray that even tonight, Muslims seeking God’s power and favor may have encounters with Jesus through dreams and visions and reading the Bible and recognize that in Jesus they can experience the greatness of God’s power.

Praying for the Church

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”.  (Acts 1:8, ESV)

Pray for believers to be especially sensitive and ready in these last days of Ramadan to pray in Jesus’ name with their Muslim friends for healing and for the other requests that may be heavy on their hearts this Ramadan.

Pray for believers to have fresh encounters with God’s power through the Holy Spirit that will enable them to be witnesses to Jesus with their neighbors and even with Muslims from different people groups.

Worship and Waiting

This time can be an opportunity to listen to a worship song or spend time quietly listening to the Lord.

Praying by Name

Ask that if your friends are especially expectant for an encounter with God tonight, they would have a encounter with Him through Jesus.

Closing Prayer

God of power and of compassion, we ask that as Muslims tonight seek your power and your favor, as they commemorate the revelation of their holy book, you would have mercy on them and reveal to them your power and favor through Christ and you would open their eyes to the glorious riches of your word in Scripture. Please encounter many hearts tonight, softening them to receive your truth and follow you.
